Bio
THIS SEASON: One of three talented Hungarian swimmers competing for USC, 2007 senior Gergely Meszaros is a solid freestyler and butterflyer looking to take the next step to become a Pac-10 finalist and perhaps reach the NCAAs in his final year on the squad.
2006: A key contributor in dual meets, Meszaros was 15th in the 200y free (1:39.33) at the 2006 Pac-10 Championships as a junior, 16th in the 500y free (4:31.88) and 23rd in the 100y free (46.80) ... He raced twice at the 2006 U.S. Spring Nationals, his best result a 21st in the 200m free (1:55.30).
2005: Meszaros was a key dual meet swimmer for the Trojans for the second straight year as a 2005 sophomore and raced in three events for the Trojans at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships. He was 14th in the 200y fly (1:51.43), 18th in the 200y free (1:39.03) and 29th in the 50y free (21.56).
2004: Meszaros raced in three events as a 2004 freshman at the Pac-10 Championships, placing 14th in the 100y fly (48.60), 24th in the 50y free (21.37) and 28th in the 100y free (46.72) ... Was a member of the Hungarian 2004 Olympic team, but did not compete.
HIGH SCHOOL: Meszaros attended Teleki Blanka in Budapest, Hungary ... A veteran of international competition, he competed most recently in the 2003 World University Games. He took seventh in the consolation finals of the 50m fly (25.02) and was 17th in the 100m fly (55.07) ... Meszaros swam in the 2001 and 2002 European Junior Championships ... He was the 2001 Hungary junior national champion in the 50m and 100m fly and swam on three winning relays. A year later, he repeated as champion in the 50m fly ... He competed in Hungary[apos]s senior nationals in 2001 and 2003, swimming the fly as well as relays.
PERSONAL: He was born on May 21, 1984 ... Majoring in political science/psychology ... Nickname is 'Cheese'.
