Bio
THIS YEAR: Redshirt senior jumper Eric Sloan is in his final season of competing for the USC track and field team. He ranks in the Trojans' top 10 both indoors and outdoors in the long jump and triple jump. He transferred to USC in 2015 from San Joaquin Delta College where he was a JC All-American.
2017: Competed in his first Dual Meet on April 30 and won both the long jump with a wind-legal PR of 25-9.25 (7.85m) and the triple jump with a leap of 53-9.25 (16.39m). Won the Pac-12 triple jump title on May 14 with the final jump of the competition, posting a mark of 52-6.00/16.00m (+1.9) to edge teammate Dominic Smallwood, who had just taken the lead. The previous day he placed third in the Pac-12 long jump with a leap of 25-2.50/7.68 (+2.3w). He advanced out of the NCAA West Prelims in the long jump on May 25 with a wind-aided PR of 26-4.25/8.03m (+2.4w). He then set a triple jump PR of 55-6.25/16.92m (+1.9) for the top mark at West Prelims on May 27...that jump moved him to third on USC's all-time list. He placed sixth in the long jump with a jump of 25-1.25/7.65m (+0.9) at the NCAA Championships on June 7. He finished 16th in the triple jump with a jump of 51-3.00/15.62 (+1.7) at the NCAAs on June 9. He competed at the USA T&F Championships in the triple jump on June 23 and placed 11th with a jump of 51-9.00/15.77 (+1.0). He competed in one indoor meet, winning the long jump with a leap of 25-4.75 (7.74m) at the McCravy Invite on Jan. 20. He served as a co-captain of the team.
2016: Competed indoors before a hamstring strain and pinched nerve in his back caused him to miss the outdoor season. Won the MPSF long jump (25-2.75) and triple jump titles (53-6.25) to help lead USC to the team title. Won the triple jump at the Tyson Invitational with a PR of 55-10-.50 (17.03m), which is the second-farthest indoor jump every by a Trojan. Finished sixth in the LJ at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a mark of 25-2.75 (.7.69m)...Took fourth in the triple jump at the indoor NCAAs, but suffered a leg injury which would cause him to miss the outdoor season. He rehabbed all season and then was able to place 12th in the triple jump at the U.S. Olympic Trials. His best jump was 53-3.50 (16.24m) which moved him into seventh place on USC's all-time list, the first Trojan to crack the top 10 since 2003. Won the TJ gold medal at the NACAC U23 games with a jump of 53-0.00 (16.15m) in El Salvador on July 17.
BEFORE USC: After missing the 2013 season due to a patellar tendon injury, Sloan made his freshman season in 2014 at San Joaquin Delta College special, beginning with a school record triple jump of 51-10 (15.80m) in his first meet and finishing with the California state title and a then-PR of 53-6.25 (16.31m). He also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 25-0.50 (7.63m), and twice during the season jumped 25-2.50 (7.68m). In 2015, Sloan placed first in every regular season meet in the triple jump, setting a PR of 54-0 (16.46m) at the De Anza Invitational. At the Northern California Community College Championship, Sloan placed second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Sloan then set a then wind-aided PR in the long jump of 25-10.25 (7.88m) and a wind-legal PR of 25-8.00 (7.82) at the Mt. Sac Relays before going on to compete at the California State Championship where he finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 51-9 (15.77m).
HIGH SCHOOL: Sloan is a 2012 graduate of Bear Creek High School in Stockton, California.
PERSONAL: Eric was born on June 20, 1994 in Stockton, Calif...He is the only child to parents Shannon Baker and Eric Sloan Jr...Lists his favorite musical artist as Ray J and favorite movie as Blood Brothers...Is majoring in Social Psychology at USC.
