Bio
THIS YEAR: Senior Kendall Ellis begins her final season of competing in the 400m dash and 4x400m relay for USC. She ranks in USC’s top 10 in the 200m and holds the school all-time record and freshman record in the 400m dash. She anchored USC’s 4x400m relay which set the school outdoor record at the NCAA Championships last year.
2017: Ellis had a spectacular junior season, setting the Pac-12, NCAA West Preliminary Rounds and USC school records in the 400m dash. She won the Pac-12 title with a time of 50.66 on May 14 and posted the fastest time of 50.45 at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on May 26. She went on to place third in the 400m with a time of 51.06 at the NCAA Championships on June 10. She placed third in the 400m at the USA T&F Championships on June 24 with a school-record time of 50.00 to make USA's World Championships team. At the World Championships on Aug. 7, she placed 24th in the 400m with a time of 52.18. She earned a gold medal at the World Championships by running a leg on USA's 4x400m relay in the preliminary round. She also had a 200m PR of 22.79 to win at the Trojan Invitational on March 18...that time moved her to sixth on USC's all-time 200m list. Indoors, she won the 200m with a meet-record time of 23.09 at the MPSF Championships on Feb. 24 to help lead USC to the conference's team title. She had a indoor 200m PR of 22.97 to place third at the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 11...that moved her to third on USC's all-time indoor 200m list. She set the school indoor 400m record with a time of 51.52 to place second at the McCravy Invite on Jan. 21.
2016: Set a then 400m PR of 51.82 to win at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 15, fifth all-time by a Trojan. She finished second at the Pac-12 Championships in the 400m race with a time of 53.56. Reached the NCAA semifinals in the 400m and finished 10th with a time of 52.59. Ran on USC’s 4x400m relay, which set a then school record with a time of 3:26.73 at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on May 28. The team dropped the baton during the first exchange at the NCAA Championships and finished eighth with a time of 3:40.61…they also won the Pac-12 title with a time of 3:34.14. She had a then 200m PR of 23.32 (+1.1) at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 16. She had a then indoor 400m PR of 52.77 at the Tyson Invitational then won the MPSF title with a time of 53.11.
2015: Ellis won the 400m with a time of 53.49 at the Trojan Invite on March 21. She then won and set the USC freshman record in the 400m with a time of 53.01 at the Jim Click Shootout on April 11...she bettered Malika Edmonson's record of 53.02 which was set in 1998 and moved to ninth on USC's all-time 400m list. Ellis was named the Pac-12 Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 6-12. She would go on to beat her freshman record four more times. She had a time of 52.96 to place third at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 18, ran 52.88 to finish fifth at the Pac-12 Championships and ran 52.58 to place 10th at the NCAA West Regional to advance to the NCAA Championships, where she ran 54.45 in the semifinals to place 24th. She then had a PR of 52.32 taking the 400m title at the USATF Junior Championships on June 27. Ellis also placed third at the Pan Am Juniors with a time of 52.81 on July 31. Ellis was a key member of USC's 4x400m relay which set the school indoor record with a time of 3:29.63, placing third at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14, the outdoor record with a time of 3:27.86 at the NCAA West Regional on May 30 and won the Pac-12 title. The quartet finished second at the NCAA Championships with a time of 3:29.97.
HIGH SCHOOL: Ellis graduated with the class of 2014 from St. Thomas Aquinas High in Pembroke Pines, Florida. She is a four-time Florida State champion in the 400m dash, winning in 2014 with a PR of 52.95. She is also the four-time female MVP. Ellis' 400m dash time ranked fourth in the country among all high school women in 2014.
PERSONAL: Kendall was born on March 8, 1996 to Wanda and Samuel Ellis...She has two siblings: Courtney and Kimberly Ellis...She received a high school GPA of 4.7 while participating in clubs such as Delta GEMS and Think BIG and volunteering at the West Pembroke Pines Optimist Track Club...She also works with children as a volunteer for Coaching Corps...Her sports hero is Allyson Felix because "she is great at everything she does"...Graduated in May of 2017 with a degree in Business Administration...Lists her favorite color as gold, favorite musician as Childish Gambino, favorite movie as Avatar and favorite book as Diary of An Oxygen Thief...Says her favorite foods are pizza and chicken wings... Someday would like to travel to Dubai.
