THIS YEAR: Senior Robert Ford begins his final season of competing in the 800m run for the Trojans.
2017: Ford won the USC-UCLA Dual Meet 800m race with a time of 1:49.44 on April 30. He took second in the event at the Pac-12 Championships with a time of 1:49.41. He had a season-best time of 1:47.58 on May 26 to advance out of the West Prelims in seventh. He finished 23rd at the NCAA Championships with a time of 1:50.42 in the semifinals. He won his second consecutive indoor MPSF 800m title with a time of 1:49.53 on Feb. 25.
2016: Finished 14th at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the 800m with a time of 1:48.90. Took eighth in the event at the Pac -12 Championships with a time of 1:50.86. Set his 800m PR of 1:47.54 in finishing third at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 16. Ran the third led for USC's 4x400m relay which placed fourth at the Pac-12 Championships with a season-best time of 3:10.46.
2015: Ford started his USC career competing in the indoor 800m at the Husky Classic, setting a school record of 1:49.21. He started strong with a win and PR in his first outdoor 800m race with a time of 1:49.21. Improving as the season continued, Ford set another personal best at the Pac-12 Championships, placing fourth with a time of 1:48.14. In that meet, he also placed fourth as part of the 4x400m relay team with a time of 3:11.94. In late June, Robert competed in the USATF Juniors Finals in Florida and placed second in the 800m run, setting yet another PR with a time of 1:48.00. He finished out the 2015 season at the Pan Am Juniors Championship placing third with a time of 1:48.90.
HIGH SCHOOL: Ford is a 2014 graduate of Claudia Taylor Johnson High in San Antonio, Texas. He placed second in the 800m race at the Texas 5A championships with a time of 1:52.01. He went on to place fifth in the 800m at the USATF Junior Championships with a season-best time of 1:50.04 which was the 10th-fastest 800m race by a U.S. high schooler in 2014. In 2013 he won the 800m race at the USATF World Youth trials with a time of 1:51.13 and went on to represent the U.S. at the World Youth Games in the Ukraine where he placed 23rd with a time of 1:53.61. He was a four-time All-Region Academic Team selection.
PERSONAL: Robert was born on March 8, 1996 in San Antonio, Texas...His parents are Joanne and Darren and he has five siblings, Sean, Brianna, Darren, Devon and Charlie...He is a Social Psychology major at USC...Says his favorite actor is Ryan Reynolds, favorite musical artist is Frank Ocean and favorite movie is Harry Potter...His favorite food is Chinese...When asked where he'd like to travel to, he said wherever the Olympics are...His goals after USC include running professionally and living a long, fulfilling life.
