LOS ANGELES - The No. 1-ranked USC women's rowing team heads to Northern California, this weekend, to race in the 2013 Lake Natoma Invitational, April 20-21. Hosted by Sacramento State and the University of California, the two days of races takes place at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., which is also the site of the Pac-12 Championships.
Among the teams that will converge on Natoma are second-ranked co-host California, No. 8 Stanford, No. 12 Notre Dame, No. 15 Wisconsin, No. 19 Washington State, co-host Sac State, Kansas, and Tulsa. Including No. 1 USC, all nine schools will race in three varsity events: an eight, a second eight, and a fours boat. Six teams will race novice boats including two boats each from Cal and Sac State, and one each from Stanford, USC, Wisconsin, and Washington State.
Saturday's (April 20) varsity groupings and races will be determined by race official's assignments. Sunday (April 21) groupings are determined by coaches' seeding. The novice eights will race in a pair of heats on Saturday evening and will race in petit and grand finals on Sunday morning.

The Women of Troy are coming off a fantastic start to the season in which the varsity eight claimed a third consecutive Jessop-Whittier Cup at last week's 40th-annual San Diego Crew Classic. The second varsity eight won the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy as winners of its division, and the varsity four claimed the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup for the second time in USC's program history. For its impressive start, USC claimed all 25 first-place votes in the April 10 CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll and moved from its sixth-place ranking to No. 1.
