Trojans win by 15 strokes, place four in the top 10.
Sophomores Jennifer Chang and Amelia Garvey fired 2-under 69s while sophomore Alyaa Abdulghany carded a 1-under 70 as the No. 3 USC women's golf team completed a commanding wire-to-wire win at the Stanford Intercollegiate on Sunday (Oct. 21).
The Trojans won for the second time in a row thanks to a 15-under 837 (272-286-279), winning by 15 strokes. Host Stanford was second at par 852 with Northwestern a stroke back in third.
"This was obviously a very good week for our entire lineup, top to bottom," USC Head Coach Justin Silverstein said. "Whenever we can have a week where our entire lineup is in every round we will have a great chance to bring home a trophy. Although we had some great success this week, our group is looking forward to getting home and starting to prepare for our next event at East Lake Cup."
Abdulghany topped USC's starting lineup by finishing fourth at 5-under 208 (67-71-70). Two days after opening with a collegiate best 67, she completed her best 54-hole effort as a Trojan with a clean two-birdie, one-bogey round.
Chang was a stroke back, tying for fifth at 4-under 209 (69-71-69). She was 2-over through 10 holes but closed with four birdies over her final eight holes to secure her 10th straight top 15 finish and first top 10 this year.
"I'm so proud of the team this week," Chang said. "We played great all week so it's nice to get another win. We had a really good start on the first day and just wanted to keep the momentum going into the next few days."
Garvey, in her season debut tournament, tied for eighth at 3-under 210 (69-72-69), posting her first two rounds under 70 as a Trojan. Her final round saw a bogey on 6 and three birdies on 7, 12 and 14 to stay under par today. It was her best finish in a 54-hole event.
Malia Nam continued the strong start to her freshman season, taking 10th at 1-under 212 (67-74-71) for her third straight top 11 finish. She had two birdies and two bogeys in the final round.
Sophomore Gabriela Ruffels, coming off her first win, rounded out USC's efforts, tying for 31st at 4-over 217 (71-72-74).
