Freshman Jennifer Chang takes co-medalist honors at 8-under.
Sophomore Allisen Corpuz fired a career-best 5-under 67 while freshman Jennifer Chang's 2-under 70 was good enough to earn her first co-medalist honor as the No. 5 USC women's golf team captured the Silverado Showdown by 10 strokes for its third win a row to close the regular season at the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, Calif., on Tuesday (April 10).
Â
USC, which began the day 2 back of Stanford, registered its fifth win of the season at 5-under 859 (290-287-282), 10 better than second-place California (869) and 11 ahead of Arizona and the Cardinal (870).
Â
The Trojans' three-event win streak is its first since winning three in a row during the spring of the 2014 season. USC's five wins marks the fifth time in the last six seasons the Trojans have won at least five tournaments and this is Troy's 35th victory since the start of the 2012-13 season.
Â
The Trojans feature a four-freshman, one-sophomore starting lineup without any starters from last year's NCAA semifinal team.
Â
"This team continues to amaze me," USC Coach Andrea Gaston said. "They're playing patiently, playing smart, making a lot of good decisions. All of the work they put in to get ready for each event allows them to get out there, unafraid, and just perform."
Â
Chang became the first Trojan freshman to post a first-place finish in a 54-hole event since Robynn Ree in 2015-16 thanks to her 8-under 208 (66-72-70). She tied with UCLA's Patty Tavatanakit, the pair finishing one shot better than Cal's Jiyoon Jang and Arizona's Bianca Pagdanganan.
Â
Chang was 2-under going out with birdies on 8 and 9 and got to 3-under after a birdie on 13 before her only bogey on 18, just her fourth of the tournament. The freshman from Cary, N.C., notched her third top 3 finish in five starts this year.
Â
"The course was definitely challenging with how the pins were set up, but we didn't let that affect how we played," Chang said. "It's amazing to be able to win three in a row, I'm really proud of the team."
Â
Corpuz tied for 15th at 2-over 218 (78-73-67), closing fast with her final round that featured five birdies without a bogey for her sixth top 20 finish this year to go with a 4-1 match play record.
Â
"The course was in great condition and there were some tough pins out there, but we saw a lot of good shots and stayed calm throughout," Corpuz said. "Three wins in a row definitely feels great and we're hoping to carry this through the postseason."
Â
Freshmen Alyaa Abdulghany (72-76-72) and Amelia Garvey (75-72-73) joined Corpuz in the top 20, tying for 19th at 4-over 220. It is Abdulghany's sixth straight top 20 finish and seventh on the season and Garvey's best effort in a 54-hole event.
Â
Freshman Gabi Ruffels tied for 40th at 7-over 223 (77-70-76) while sophomore Aiko Leong, who played individually, tied for 78th at 19-over 235 (84-79-72), today's final round her best 18 holes as a Trojan.
Â
The Pac-12 Championships are set for April 22-24, in Seattle, Wash.
