Trojans Split Annual Dual Meet WIth UCLA

Temi Ojora wins three individual events
The USC track and field program split the annual USC-UCLA Dual Meet hosted by UCLA at Drake Stadium in Westwood, Calif. today (April 30), with the women winning 88-75 and the men's team falling to the UCLA men's team by a score of 88-70. USC has swept or split the Dual Meet the last nine meetings, with the women's team winning the last nine meets against UCLA. USC now leads 46-43 in the men's competition and trails 22-17 in the all-time women's competition.
The USC women trailed 43-7 after the first seven event, but after the discus throw, triple jump, long jump, 100m hurdles, 1500m race, 3000m SC, 4x100m, 400m, 800m, 200m 400m hurdles, USC outscored UCLA 66-15 and for all intent and purposed had won the meet. The men's team hung in there for quite a quite awhile, but the Bruins outscored USC 34-2 in the discus throw, 400m hurdles, and 3000m steeplechase and the 3000m to secure the victory.

- The women's 4x100m relay team of Caisja Chandler, Samirah Moody, Kimberly Harris and Jassani Carter won with a season-best time of 43.13. They earned USC five points and USC now trailed 7-25 after four scored events. After UCLA swept the pole vault and women's 1500m, deficit had swelled to 7-43 after six events.
- Jalaysiya Smith won the women's 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 13.07 (+1.50 and Allie Jones places third with a time of 13.26 (+1.5). Breanna Bernard-Joseph placed fifth with a time of 14.18 (+1.5). USC scored six points in that event.
- The USC women swept the 400m dash to earn nine points, with Jan'Taijah Jones winning with a time of 51.81, Bailey Lear was second with a time of 51.93 and Yemi John was third with a time of 52.50
- USC swept the women's 100m dash with Caisja Chandler winning with a time of 11.26 (-1.3), Samirah Moody taking second with a time of 11.43 (-1.3) and Jassani Carter placing third with a time of 11.45 (-1.3) to take third.
- USC then also swept the women's 400m hurdles with Maci Simmons winning with a PR of 58.21, Jalaysiya Smith taking second with a time of 60.36 in her first collegiate 400m hurdles race and Breanna Bernard-Joseph took third with a time of 61.12.
- USC also swept the women's 200m for another nine points, with Chandler winning with a time of 22.80 (+1.3), Mallard was second with a time of 23.29 (+1.3) and Moody placing third with a time of 23.40 (+1.3).
- USC swept the women's long jump and triple jump to earn 18 more points. Temi Ojora won the long jump with a best leap of 20-3/6.17m (+0.6), followed in second by Lauren Reed with a PR of 19-11.75/6.09m (+0.5) and Allie Jones in third with a jump of 19-5.50/5.93m (+0.0). Ojora also won the triple jump with a PR of 44-11.75/13.71m (+1.3) which bettered her third-place standing on USC's all-time list. Reed took second with a jump of 40-3.25/12.27m (+0.0) and Jada Foreman was third with a jump of 38-9.00/11.81m (+1.5).
- Temi Ojora won her third event of the take by taking the women's high jump with a best clearance of 5-8.75/1.75. Allie Jones finished second with a clearance of 5-7.00/1.70. USC earned eight points in the event.
- The women's team closed the meet by winning the 4x400m relay with a team of Yemi John, Christine M. Mallard, Bailey Lear and Jan'Taijah Jones with a time of 3:29.51.
- The action for the women also began with the hammer throw and USC's Summer Mosely placed third with a best throw of 188-0 (57.32m). Karlee Freeman placed fourth with a mark of 171-8 (52.34m).
- Kamryn Elgersma earned USC one point in the javelin throw by taking third with a throw of 137-10 (42.01m). Abbey Knoll was bumped from third to fourth in the final round, as Bruin thrower jumped from fourth to second. Knoll had a PR of 136-2 (41.51). Karlee Freeman placed fifth (130-10) and Annabel Doherty sixth (126-10).
- Karlee Freeman placed third in the women's discus with a mark of 172-6 (52.58m).
- Freeman placed second in the women's shot put with a PR of 53-11.00/16.43m. Freeman moved from ninth to eighth on USC's all-time shot put list.
- The day's action for the men began with Nikolaos Polychroniou winning the men's hammer throw with a PR of 238-1 (72.58m), to move from eighth to sixth on USC's all-time hammer throw list. Christian Johnson took third with a best throw of 211-4 (64.43m). Matteo Mitchell had a best mark of 175-0 (53.34m) to finish fifth. USC outscored UCLA 6-3 in this event.
- Elias Gerald won the men's high jump with a clearance of 6-10.75 (2.10m). Dallas Wise took third with a clearance of 6-6.75 (2.00m). They earned the USC men's team six points and the Trojans now trailed 13-23 after the first four events.
- Bobby Poynter won the men's 1500m race as the only Trojan in a field of eight with a PR of 3:42.75. His time moved him from ninth to third on USC's all-time list.
- The men's 4x100m relay team of Johnny Brackins Jr., Ashton Allen, Chris Borzor and Johnnie Blockburger won with a time of 39.38.
- Tade Ojora and Brackins Jr. went 1-2 in the men's 110m hurdles, with Ojora running 13.65 (+0.2) and Brackins Jr. 13.96 (+0.2).
- Johnnie Blockburger won the men's 400m race with a season-best time of 45.68 and William Jones took second with an impressive stretch run to finish with a PR of 46.06Â Â It was his first race since April 1 and his first collegiate 400m race.
- USC then earned six points in the men's long jump with JC Stevenson winning with a best jump of 24-11.25/7.60m (+0.7) and Brackins Jr. finishing third with a best jump of 24-4.50/7.43m (+1.0). USC also earned four points in the triple jump with Stevenson taking second with a PR of 49-3.50/15.02 (+1.6) and Wise placing third with jump of 49-0.25/14.94m (+0.0).
- The USC men's team picked up nine points by sweeping the 100m dash, with Chris Borzor winning with a PR of 10.27 (+0.2), Ashton Allen placing second with a time of 10.37 (+0.2) and Bryce Brock taking third with a PR of 10.39 (+0.2).
- USC also swept the men's 200m, actually going 1-4, with Allen winning with a time of 20.88 (+0.8), Brock taking second with a PR of 20.90 (+0.9), Borzor finishing third with a time of 21.00 (+0.8) and Matthew Okonkwo taking fourth with a time of 21.08 (+0.8).
- Tade Ojora placed third in the men's 400m hurdles with a PR of 55.36.
- Morgan Fierro placed third in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a PR of 9:27.56,
- Christian Johnson placed third in the javelin throw with a mark of 138-3 (42.15m) to earn USC a point. Dylan Lange was fourth with a best throw of 130-3 (39.72m).
- Johnson also took third in the shot put with a best mark of 49-5.75 (15.08m).
- The men's 4x400m relay team of Brackins Jr., Allen, Jones and Blockburger cruised to victory, but after the meet, both teams were disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct, resulting in the final score of 88-70.
