USC Men’s Golf Fires Team Low Round on Day Two of Big Ten Tournament
April 26, 2025 | Men's Golf
TIMONIUM, Md. – USC men's golf was the largest risers on the day, as it tied the lowest team round on the day at one-under par to bring them to seven-over par (288 + 279 = 567) and moving them up four positions into 10th out of 18 teams on Saturday, Apr. 26 at the Baltimore Country Club.
The Trojans were one of three teams under par on the second day of competition as they counted scores of 68-70-70-71 (279). USC's junior Antonio Safa continues to be at the forefront of the Trojan's success, as he posted his fifth round in the 60s this year and sits in 9th place after two rounds. No. 13 Illinois remains the leader of the tournament at eight-under par.
Safa continued his solid play on the second day as he backed up Friday's 70 (E) with a two-under par, 68, to start the Big Ten Conference Tournament. The Trojans again started on the back nine at No. 10, and the junior took advantage with two straight birdies – No. 12 and 13 – and ended the backside with a 34 (-1). Safa opened the front with another string of birdies – No. 1 and 2 – and finished that side with a 34 (-1). The junior is poised for another top-ten finish, as he has one this season (Southern Dunes Invitational).
Sophomore Jack Jerge and senior Gavin Aurilia stayed put on their totals as both players carded a 70 (E) on the second day. Jerge is currently two-over par, tying him for 24th on the leaderboard, and Aurilia is three-over par, tying him at 32nd for the tournament. Jerge opened the day with 35 (E) on the back nine and had a string of success with three birdies through the first five holes on the front. However, a bogey and then a double bogey on No. 9, mitigated his success in the early portion of the front. Aurilia's round was put together by three birdies and three bogeys, including a bogey on No. 7 to land him at even-par on the day.
Freshman Jack Buchanan is now tied for 43rd in the field, posting a one-over-par second round to make him four-over-par overall. Buchanan recorded one birdie during the round and had two bogeys.
Freshman Jaden Dumdumaya had the non-counting score on day two with a two-over par, 74. The freshman now sits tied for 58th at five-over par for the tournament.
USC will be back in action as the Big Ten Conference Championships' third round which begins at 5 a.m. PST/8 a.m. EST tomorrow (Sunday, Apr. 27) at the Baltimore C.C. in Timonium, Md. Coverage for the final round will be streamed via the Big Ten Network starting at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
