No. 23 USC Women's Rowing Beats UCLA for the Sixth-Consecutive Year
March 06, 2026 | Women's Rowing
MARINA DEL REY, Calif. — It took a total team effort, grit and determination, but the No. 23 USC women's rowing team beat UCLA in the annual head-to-head dual for the sixth straight time and improved to 24-1 all-time over the Bruins at Marina Del Rey on Friday, March 6.
The two teams tied with 16 points apiece, yet in the last race of the morning, USC's varsity eight came through in the clutch and delivered with a decisive tiebreaking win. Although UCLA won four races and two more boats, USC's 1V4 and 1V8 picked up big victories to keep the Amy Fuller Kearney-Lori Guerrero Azbill Trophy.
Although USC did not compete in the first race, UCLA claimed wins in the 3V8 Frosh/Novice race and the 4V8. In the first race between USC and UCLA, the Bruins' 3V4 took the lead early and had open water throughout the race for a big win.
3V4
The Trojans' 2V4 fell behind by a boat length in the first 800 meters but couldn't get closer throughout the race as UCLA held off a late surge from the Trojans in the closest race of the dual.
2V4
USC got on the scoreboard thanks to the efforts of the 1V4, who took a two-seat lead in the first 500 meters. The Trojans held off the Bruins' surges as both teams increased their rate and eventually prevailed with a nearly six-second win over the Bruins.
1V4
In yet another close race, the Bruins led by half a boat-length at the 1,500-meter mark and fended off a late USC push to win its fifth race of the morning.
2V8
Needing a win to take home the Amy Fuller Kearney-Lori Guerrero Azbill Trophy, the USC 1V8 delivered in a pressure-packed race. USC had a six-seat lead over UCLA 500 meters into the race, but the Women of Troy increased their rate in the late stages of the race to win by three boat lengths.
1V8
The Trojans will compete in the San Diego Crew Classic, held at Crown Point Park from March 28-29. All pertinent updates can be found on the women's rowing team's schedule page on usctrojans.com.
