No. 2 USC Women’s Golf Makes Cut, Catherine Park Tied for the Lead at the NCAA Championships
May 24, 2026 | Women's Golf
Senior Catherine Park fired a 65 (-7) and is tied for the lead at -10 heading into the final round.
CARLSBAD, Calif. — Highlighted by senior Catherine Park rising up into a tie for first, the No. 2 USC Women's Golf team made the first cut of stroke play at the 2026 NCAA Championships, held at The Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. on Sunday, May 24.
The Trojans remain in second place with an 848 (-16), which is five strokes behind first-place No. 1 Stanford. Playing in the coldest conditions of the day with light drizzling in the morning, USC had an eventful third round at the par-72, 6,271-yard course. Throughout the morning, the Trojans began in second, took the lead at the turn, and fell back into third before finishing six strokes clear of third-place No. 21 Oklahoma State.
"We were able to get off to a fast start in some softer conditions and closed really well as a group in a bit of wind," Head Coach Justin Silverstein said. "The day was highlighted by Catherine Park's 65 and we needed every bit of that to put up a great team score."
Tomorrow, the NCAA individual champion will be crowned and the top eight teams after the fourth round will advance to match play. USC will aim to not only qualify for match play for the fourth consecutive season, but also advance to match play for the fifth time under Head Coach Justin Silverstein. A time for the fourth round has not been set as of press time, but the fourth will begin at 10:45 a.m. PT. Babygrande's coverage of the final round will be from 10:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m. PT, while Golf Channel's broadcast of the fourth round and the crowning of the individual champion will begin at 2:30 p.m. PT.
Senior Catherine Park was the bright spot for the Trojans throughout it all. Park entered the day in a tie for 12th place but quickly rose up the leaderboard with an excellent start to her penultimate collegiate round. Park had three birdies in the first six holes, then finished three under at the turn after having her lone bogey of the day on the par-3 No. 8. But the back side was where she excelled: Park took the lead with consecutive birdies on Nos. 12 and 13 before finishing her 65 (-7) with birdies on Nos. 16 and 17.
Park, who was the NCAA runner-up as a freshman, will look to outdo herself tomorrow in her final collegiate round. She is tied with Texas junior Farah O'Keefe; both players will go for their first career NCAA titles.
"I think today went pretty well," Park said to the Golf Channel afterward. "I think my first two days, I didn't really see a lot of putts drop. Today was the day I wanted and expected. More putts dropped today, more shots were in closer proximity to the hole and I was driving it pretty well."
Sophomore Jasmine Koo fired her third consecutive round under par with a 70 (-2), giving her a 212 (-4) total that is tied for 15th place. Koo had her first of four birdies on the day on the par-3 No. 4, but found trouble with back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 6 and 7. However, she bookended the back side with two birdies to finish with the Trojans' second-best round of the day.
Junior Bailey Shoemaker started strong with three birdies in the first five holes to move into the top five, yet found trouble on the back side with a triple-bogey on the par-4 No. 11 and a double-bogey on the par-4 No. 13. She birdied her final two holes to finish with an even-par 72, bringing her to a 214 (-4) total that is currently in 20th place.
Sophomore Kylie Chong is in a tie for 72nd place with a 221 (+5) after firing a 76 (+4) on Sunday. Rounding out the Trojans, sophomore Elise Lee fired a 74 (+2) to finish with a 224 (+8) total. She is in a tie for 105th place.
Tomorrow's fourth round will be livestreamed via the Golf Channel. A link to the live stream and live results can be found on the women's golf team's schedule page on usctrojans.com.
