THIS YEAR: Senior All-American Ricky Morgan is expected to compete in the sprints and relays for USC. For the second consecutive season he was voted one of the team captains.
2017: Ran a PR of 45.44 in the 400m to place sixth and advance out of the NCAA West Prelims on May 26. He had a time of 45.92 in the 400m at the NCAA semifinals on June 17 to finish 17th overall. Ran in the 400m and had a time of 45.47 at the USA Championships on June 23 to advance to the semifinals where he ran 46.43 to finish 16th on June 23. He had a wind-aied 200m PR of 20.76 (+2.8w) to take fourth at the Pac-12 Championships on May 14. He also took third place in the 400m with a time of 45.85 at the Pac-12s on May 14. He ran on USC's Pac-12 Champion 4x400m relay team which clocked 3:07.67, USC's 15th conference title in the event, the most of any school. Also ran on USC's 4x400m relay team which advanced out of the West Prelims with a time of 3:04.65, USC's fastest time since 2012. The relay team placed 12th at the NCAA Championships with a time of 3:05.80. Broke his USC indoor 400m record with a time of 46.41 to place fifth at the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 10. Placed fourth with a time of 46.0 in the 400m at the MPSF Championships on Feb. 25.
2016: Morgan set a then-400m PR of 45.54 to win at the Cardinal & Gold Challenge. He went on to place second with a time of 46.20 in the 400m at the Pac-12 Championships....he also ran the leadoff leg for the 4x100m relay which clocked a season-best time of 39.74 and anchor for the 4x400m relay which finished fourth with a season-best time of 3:10.46. He ran 45.67 in the NCAA semifinals and then 46.63 in the finals to finish seventh in the 400m and earn first-team All-America honors. Qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials and finished 24th with a time of 46.46. Also ran the 200m for USC and had a PR and 2016 USC best of 20.88 (+1.7) to win at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet.
2015: Morgan earned All-America honorable mention honors in the 400m race by placing 21st at the NCAA Championships with a time of 46.75 on June 10 in Eugene, Ore. He ran a PR of 46.51 in both the NCAA West Prelims and NCAA Quarterfinals on May 28 and May 29 respectively in Austin, Texas. He placed fifth with a then-PR of 46.63 to take fifth at the Pac-12 Championships on May 17. He finished second in the 400m with a time of 46.72 at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet...also ran the first leg for USC's winning 4x400m relay which gave the Trojans a 1-point victory and a sweep of the Bruins. He set his then 200m PR of 21.26 (+1.6) at the CSULA Invitational on March 7 and matched it at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 17. He also had a strong indoor campaign for USC setting the school indoor 400m record of 47.14 at the McCravy Invitational on Jan. 24 and placing second at the MPSF Championships with a time of 47.32.
HIGH SCHOOL: Morgan graduated from Forest Park High in Woodbridge, Va. in 2014. As a senior at the Virginia 5A/6A Championships he placed second in the 400m (48.06), fourth in the 200m (21.59) and second in the 100m (10.77). He went on to place fifth in the 400m with a time of 46.71 at the USATF Junior Championships. That time was the fourth-fastest by a high school senior and seventh-fastest overall by a high school runner in 2014. He ran the third leg for USA's winning 4x400m relay which clocked a time of 3:03.31 to grab the gold medal at the IAAF World Youth Championships held in Eugene, Ore. Has a 400m PR of 46.67 in placing fifth at the 2013 NB Outdoor Nationals. Was an honor roll student all four years.
PERSONAL: Ricky was born on September 12, 1995 in Honolulu, Hi...He is the son of Thelma and Ricky Morgan Sr...His hobbies include football, basketball and anything dealing with going to the beach...Lists his favorite movie as Bad Boys 2 and favorite actor as Will Smith...Says his sports hero is former USC football star Ricky Ervins because he was one of the guys he looked up to while growing up and who was his coach...His favorite food is chicken alfredo...Among his goals are to travel the world and compete in the Olympics.
