Bio
BREAKDOWN:
Evan Smith is a 6-foot-7, 225-pound redshirt sophomore forward who has displayed a good outside shot and relentless hustle when on the court for USC. Was expected to see his role increase last season, but suffered an injury early in preseason practice which ultimately required surgery and ended his season.
2010-11:
Was injured before the season and utilized a redshirt season. Had surgery to repair his left glenoid labrum on Dec. 23 at USC Hospital.
2009-10:
Smith averaged 1.9 points and 1.1 rebounds while appearing in seven games off the bench for the Trojans. He saw limited action at the beginning of the season, but did not play in a game after the Idaho State contest on Dec. 11. Played a season-high 33 minutes in the first game of the season and scored five points. On Nov. 27 vs. Coppin State he posted a season-high eight points and was 2-for-2 from three-point range. Had a season-best two assists and matched a season high with two rebounds at Georgia Tech on Dec. 5.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Smith prepped at Calabasas HS in Calabasas, Calif. where he was the team captain as a junior and senior, after serving as co-captain as a sophomore. He was named to the Daily News All-Area second team as he averaged 17.7 points and 9.3 rebounds, while hitting 78 percent of his free throws. He also was named to the 2009 CIF-Southern Section Division III first team, the 2009 All-Ventura County first team, 2009 Marmonte League first team and was a 2009 McDonalds High School All-American nominee. He also won the Ventura County All-Star Slam Dunk contest as a senior. He scored 20 or more points seven times and had 10 or more rebounds 10 times in 23 games. He averaged 13.9 points in 23 games as a junior. Was named to the 2009 class honorable mention team by the magazine Nothing But Net.
PERSONAL:
Smith was born on Aug. 10, 1990 in Calabasas, Calif. His father, Gavin Smith, played basketball collegiately at UCLA from 1974-76 and at Hawaii for his senior season.
