THIS YEAR: Senior Madisen "Mady" Richards begins her final year with the Trojans competing in the long jump.
2017: Richards had a wind-legal season-best jump of 19-8.25/6.00m (+1.2) to finish second in the long jump at the Texas Relays (Sect. B) on March 31. She had a wind-aided season-best jump of 20-1.50/6.13 (+2.1w) to finish third at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 30. She placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 19-1.25/5.82m (+0.4) at the Pac-12 Championships on May 13. She finished 30th with a long jump of 19-6.75/5.96m (+1.7) at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on May 25. She set an indoor PR of 19-4.25 (5.90m) to place third at the McCravy Invite on Jan. 20. She took fourth at the MPSF Championships with a jump of 19-3.25 (5.87m).
2016: Injury forced her to miss much of the season. Opened up by placing fifth with a jump of 19-0.00/5.79m (+3.4w) at Mt. SAC on April 16. Had a season-best leap of 19-0.75/5.81m (nwi) at the Triton Invitational on April 23. Placed 18th at the Pac-12 Championships with a jump of 17-11 on May 14.
2015: Richards' career started with a win at the first meet of the year, the CSULA Invitational with a jump of 19-00.75. Her new personal best came during the Florida Relays with a jump of 20-1.75 (6.14m) to take second. Richards also placed sixth at the Pac-12 Championships with a jump of 19-10.25/6.05 (+0.5), 21st at the NCAA West Regional with a jump of 19-9.50/6.03 (+1.3) and seventh at the USATF Juniors event in June with a best leap of 18-11.25/5.77m (+1.3). She also competed occasionally in the 100m and 200 meter dashes, finishing first in the 100m dash at the CSULA Invitational with a time of 12.12 (+1.3).
HIGH SCHOOL: Richards graduated with the class of 2014 from Simi Valley High in Simi Valley, Calif. In 2014, she was ranked eighth in the state of California and 19th in the U.S. among high school long jumpers. She placed fifth at the California State Meet with a jump of 19-5.50w...She was a two-time Ventura County Champ, and a three-time Marmonte League champion. Had a PR of 19-7.50 (5.98m) and placed third at the 2014 Mt. SAC Relays on April 19. At Simi Valley High School, she was a scholar athlete all four years and the recipient of the Ronald Reagan Student Leader Award. She kept her GPA above 4.0 all of high school, and graduated with honors...she was also the ASB President.
PERSONAL: Mady was born on November 15, 1996 in Simi Valley, Calif., to parents Ken and Cindy Richards...She is majoring in Human Biology at USC and plans to go to medical school…She has volunteered for the Marcelle Erian Cancer Foundation since seventh grade...Her sports hero is Olympic long-jumper Grace Upshaw for her technique, strength and determination...In her spare time she likes to travel, go to Disneyland and spend time with family and friends...She lists her favorite actress as Emma Stone, farovite musical artist as Drake andd favorite movie as Clueless...One day would like to travel to Tokyo, Japan.
