Bio
THIS YEAR: Graduate student Celera Barnes is in her first season as a sprinter with the USC track and field program. Barnes began her career at UCLA, before transferring to Kentucky where she spent four years.
BEFORE USC: Barnes competed at Kentucky from 2018-21, following a year at UCLA. : 2021: In her fourth and final season at Kentucky, Barnes was a first-team All-American in the 100m dash, finishing eighth with a wind-aided time of 11.31 (+2.2w). Also earned All-America honors with Kentucky’s 4x400m relay which placed eighth with a time of 3:28.68, third-fastest in UK history. Additionally ran on the 4x100m relay which placed 13th at the NCAA Championships. 2020: Earned Indoor All-America honors in the 60m, finishing seventh with a PR of 7.18. Set her indoor 200m PR of 23.28 at the Tiger Paw Invitational. 2019: Earned third-team All-America honors in the 100m and second-team in the 4x100m relay. Was sixth in the 100m with a time of 11.38 (2.1w) and third in the 4x100m (43.11). Set his outdoor 200m PR of 23.31 (+1.9) at the Tennessee Relays on April 11. Ran in sixth indoor meets and placed 10th in the 60m dash at the SEC Indoor Championships. 2018: Placed 10th in the 100m with a time of 11.19 (+1.5) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to earn second-team All-America honors. Ran on Kentucky’s All-America 4x100m relay which finished fourth. Set her 100m PR of 11.16 (+0.4) at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds. Ran in sixth indoor meets and placed 12th in the 60m dash at the SEC Indoor Championships. 2017: Competed during the indoor season for UCLA. Ran in four meets, culminating with a ninth-place finish in the 60m at the MPSF Championships with a time of 7.42.
HIGH SCHOOL: Barnes was a 2016 graduate of St. Bonaventure High in Ventura, Calif. She won the California State 200m title with a time of 23.25. She finished third at the 2017 USATF Junior Championships in the 100m with a time of 11.41…She went on to reach the semifinals at the IAAF World U20 Championships. She placed third in the 200m (23.73) and fourth in the 100m (11.71) in the CIF Championships as a junior. Named first-team All-County and All-League from 2014-16. She was inducted into the Ventura Country Hall of Fame in 2016.
PERSONAL: Celera was born on Dec. 2, 1998…Her parents are Tylene and Patrick Barnes and she has two siblings, Tyrell and Victoria…Graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kentucky with a degree in Kinesiology, then earned a Masters in Medical Sciences…Her hobbies include philanthropic work, basketball, art and going to church…Her favorite sports teams are the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Saints.
