THIS YEAR: Junior Trey Knight is in his third season as a thrower on the USC track and field team. He is the all-time high school record holder in the hammer throw. He was a three-time Gatorade State Boy’s Field Athlete of the Year for Washington. He ranks seventh on USC's all-time hammer throw list and third on the Trojans' weight throw list.
2022: Knight became a hammer throw All-American with a mark of 232--0 (70.73m) to place eighth at the NCAA Championships on June 8. Advanced out of the NCAA West Prelims seventh with a throw of 219-0 (66.76m) on May 25. Won the Pac-12 hammer throw title with a PR of 235-7 (71.81m)...that throw moved him to seventh on USC's all-time top 10 list. Won the Dual Meet hammer throw title with a mark of 234-6 (71.48) on April 30, then took second in the shot put with a mark of 56-5.25 (17.20m). Indoors, he placed second in the weight throw at the Pac-12 Invitational with a throw of 72-8.00 (22.15m) which moved him to third on USC's all-time list. He placed ninth in the weight throw with a mark of 71-2.00 (21.69m) at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
2021: Knight won the hammer throw with a PR of 226-9 (69.11m) at the Beach Invitational, which ranks ninth on USC's all-time list. He placed second with a throw of 219--9 (66.98m) to place second in the hammer throw at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet. He finished fifth at the Pac-12 Championships (217-11) and 16th at the NCAA West Prelims (210-1) in the hammer throw. Indoors he placed fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 64-8.50 (19.72m) at the Woo Pig Classic...that throw moved him into third on USC's all-time list in the event.
HIGH SCHOOL: Knight is a 2020 graduate of Ridgefield HS in Ridgefield, Wash. where he was selected the Washington Gatorade Boy’s Athlete of the Year three times. He set the national high school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 261-7 set on June 27, breaking the previous record of 260-5 set in 2013 by Rudy Winkler, a 2016 Olympian. He is a four-time 2A state champion in the shot put and discus and owns the 2A state record in the discus with a mark of 189-4. His chance for a three-peat in the events was curtailed by COVID-19 and the cancellation of the championships. His indoor weight throw of 83-11.75 in 2020 was the high school leader and his best of 86-7.50 in 2019 ranked second all-time by a high school athlete. He also played football as a senior and was an All-Conference defensive end and helped lead his team into the playoffs for the first time since 2005.
PERSONAL: Trey was born on May 24, 2002…His parents are Beau and Heather Knight and he has one sibling, Carson…His mother Heather and aunt Johanna and cousin Jon were all state champions in the throws…His hobbies include hiking and going to the movie theatre…Lists his favorite move as the Lion King…His favorite food is chicken fettuccine…Someday would like to visit New Zealand…He is a Health and Human Science major at USC.
