Bio
2021: McCoy, a physical wide receiver with much promise, figures to be an integral part of USC’s wideout corps as a sophomore in 2021.
2020: McCoy made an immediate impact as a redshirt freshman in 2020. Overall in 2020 while appearing in all 6 games and starting 3 times (Utah, Washington State, Oregon), he had 21 receptions for 236 yards (11.2 avg) with 2 TDs and he recovered a fumbled onside kick (and caught another one).
He had 5 catches for 51 yards with a 26-yard TD on fourth down with 2:52 to play off a tipped ball and then he recovered the ensuing onside kick that led to USC’s game-winning drive against Arizona State. He caught 3 passes for 25 yardsat Arizona, then had a game-high 5 receptions for 66 yards at Utah, an 8-yard reception against Washington State and a 10-yard catch at UCLA. He had 6 receptions for 76 yards with a short TD and he recovered an onside kick against Oregon.
2019: McCoy redshirted as a first-year freshman wide receiver in 2019. He originally signed with USC in December of 2018 and enrolled for the 2019 spring semester, but several weeks later he transferred to Texas and participated in 2019 spring practice there, then he transferred back to USC in the summer of 2019. He missed the first half of the 2019 season while recovering from an illness.
HIGH SCHOOL: He made 2018 Maxwell Football Club Offensive National High School Player of the Year, Max Preps National Player of the Year, USA Today All-USA first team, PrepStar Dream Team, Max Preps All-American first team, Tacoma News Tribune Western 100, Cal-Hi Sports California Mr. Football, USA Today All-California first team, Cal-Hi Sports All-State first team, Orange County Register Fab 15, All-CIF Division 1 Offensive Player of the Year, Los Angeles Times All-Area Player of the Year and Orange County Register Offensive Player of the Year as a senior wide receiver and linebacker at Mater Dei High in Santa Ana (Calif.). In 2018, he had 78 receptions for 1,428 yards (18.3 avg) with 18 TDs along with a 13-yard TD run on offense and 13 tackles, including 6.5 for losses (with 5 sacks), 2 deflections and 2 forced fumbles on defense. Mater Dei was 13-2 in 2018 and won the prep national championship, CIF Open Division state championship and the CIF Division 1 title.
As a junior in 2017, he made the MaxPreps Junior All-American second team, USA Today All-California second team, Cal-Hi Sports All-State Juniors first team, All-CIF Division 1 and Orange County Register All-Orange County third team as he had 46 receptions for 770 yards (16.7 avg) with 11 TDs along with 23 tackles (with 2 sacks) and a deflection. Mater Dei went 15-0 in 2017, won the California CIF Division 1 title and the California State Open Division crown and was named the prep national champions.
As a 2016 sophomore, he made the Cal-Hi Sports All-State Sophomores first team as he caught 28 passes for 407 yards (14.5 avg) with 5 TDs and made 13 tackles, including 7 for losses (with 6 sacks), and a deflection. Mater Dei went 13-1 in 2016 and advanced to the CIF Division 1 championship game. Current Trojans Frank Martin II, Solomon Tuliaupupu, John Jackson III, Clyde Moore, Raesjon Davis, Kyron Ware-Hudson and Josiah Zamora prepped at Mater Dei.
PERSONAL: He is a political science major at USC. His real first name is Horace III (he goes by Bru, a shortened version of the “Bruiser” nickname given to him by his grandmother). His father, Horace II, was a tight end at Northern Illinois (1994) and his mother, Shelby, was a record-setting 4-time (1991-94) All-Conference setter for Northern Illinois volleyball.
