THIS YEAR: Senior Davonte Burnett is in his third season as a sprinter on the USC track and field team. He ranks tied for second on USC's all-time 100m list and ninth on its outdoor 200m list. He is USC's indoor 60m record-holder and ranks 10th on its indoor 200m list. He is the reigning NCAA 60m dash champion.
2022: Burnett was having a magical season before hurting his left hamstring at the Pac-12 Championships in the 100m dash, still taking third with a time of 10.22 on May 15. He ran the leadoff leg on the Pac-12 title-winning 4x100m relay which won with a then school record of 38.60. He ran a PR of 9.99 (+0.3) to win the 100m dash at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 16...that time tied him for second on USC's all-time list, trailing only Olympic 100m silver medalist Andre De Grasse. Won the 100m with a time of 10.07 (+0.9) and the 200m with a PR of 20.28 (-0.4) at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on May 1...moved to ninth on USC's all-time 200m list. Set the USC 60m dash indoor record and won the NCAA title in the event with a time of 6.50 on March 12.
2021: Burnett had a stellar first year for the Trojans competing in both the 100m and 200m. Won all of his regular season 100m races, including the USC-UCLA Dual Meet, then won the Pac-12 100m title with a wind-legal PR of 10.05 (+1.4). That time tied him with Aaron Brown for fifth on USC's all-time list. He also won the 200m (20.55) and ran on the winning 4x100m relay (39.65) at the Pac-12 Championships. Ran a 200m PR of 20.29 (+0.3) to advance out of the NCAA West Prelims in fourth and move to ninth on USC's all-time list. At the NCAA Championships he finished just off the podium in the 100 (5th, 10.19) and in the 200m ( 6th, 20.55) to earn first-team All-America honors. Earned second team All-America honors in the 4x100m, taking 10th with a time of 39.23 at the NCAA Championships. Suffered a leg injury at the Jamaica Athletic Championships and could not compete in the finals...originally named to Jamaica's Olympic Team in the relay, but later did not travel to Japan.
BEFORE USC: Burnett attended Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas from 2019-2020. He was a 2020 NJCAA Indoor All-American in the 60m and 200m, winning the 60m title with a time of 6.63 and placing fourth in the 200m with a time of 21.05, helping lead the Cougars’ team to a runner-up finish. He set his indoor 60m PR of 6.62 in winning the NJCAA Regin VI indoor title on Feb. 22, 2020 and his indoor 200m best of 20.73 at the Red Raider Invitational on Jan. 24, 2020. He was named the USTFCCCA National Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for January 27, 2019, as his time of 20.73 was the third-fastest all-time on the JUCO list. He has outdoor bests of 10.46 in the 100m and 20.71w in the 200m dashes.
HIGH SCHOOL: Burnett is a 2018 graduate of Needham HS in Needham, Mass. He won six state titles while at Needham HS. Was injured in the 200m finals at the 2018 MIAA Eastern Division Championships and finished eighth. He did not run in the 100m final, after having the top time in both the 100m and 200m entering the finals. In 2017 he won the 100m dash at the MIAA State Championships and at the New England Championships and placed seventh at the New Balance Nationals. He also won the 2017 Massachuset’s state 200m title and took seventh in the 200m final at the New Balance Nationals. His high school PRs were 10.48 in the 100m and 21.01 in the 200m and both were the fastest of the decade by Massachusets high school athletes.
PERSONAL: Davonte was born on February 27, 2000…His mother’s name is Lodz Achille and he has one sister, Lily…His hobbies include dancing, playing video games, basketball and football…His favorite musical artist is Lil Uzi Vert, his favorite actor is Denzel Washington and favorite movie is Juice…Usain Bolt is his sports hero and the reason he began running track...Has served as a volunteer coach to help youth track athletes…Someday would like to visit Barbados…He is a Communication major at USC.
