Bio
THIS YEAR: Sophomore Liyat Kebbede is in her second season on the USC track and field and cross country teams.
2022-23: Kebbede competed in USC’s first two cross country meets of the season. She had a time of 20:45.5 at the 5K Mark Covert Classic on Sept. 3 and a PR of 23:57.5 at the 6K UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 17. She did not compete during the track and field season.
HIGH SCHOOL: Kebbede is a 2022 graduate from Niskayuna High in Niskayuna, N.Y. where she was a cross country team captain. In track, Kebbede had PRs of 2:29.77 in the 800m and 4:44.28 in the 1500m. She was an All-American in the 4x1 Mile relay at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in 2018. She holds the freshman school record in the 3000m with a time of 10:08. In XC as a senior, she placed 35th at the Section 2 Cross Country Championships. As a junior in XC, she won three of the four Section 2 Duals and placed second in the other one. As s a sophomore, she placed 10th with a PR of 18:12.30 at the Lehigh Paul Short Run. Kebbede qualified for the 2018 NYS Cross Country Championships. She also had a time of 19:38.20 to place 34th at the Nike Cross Country New York Regional.
PERSONAL: Liyat was born on February 25, 2004…Her parents are Anteneh and Kidist Mekonnen and she has two siblings, Maraki and Fikir.
