2021: Lewis, who will look to improve on his debut 2020 showing, returns as USC’s starting placekicker as a sophomore in 2021.
2020: Lewis, who enrolled at USC in the spring of 2020 after graduating a semester early from high school, won the starting placekicker job as a first-year freshman in 2020 and showed a strong leg. Overall in 2020 while appearing in all 6 games as the starting kicker and handling kickoffs, he hit all 23 of his PATs, was 9-of-13 on field goals (with a long of 48 yards) and had touchbacks on 22 of his 38 kickoffs. He ranked 20th nationally in field goals (1.6, second in the Pac-12). He was named 2020 All-Pac-12 honorable mention, Phil Steele All-Pac-12 second team and Pro Football Focus All-Pac-12 honorable mention.
He hit all 4 of his extra points (including the decisive point with 1:20 to play) and had touchbacks on 2 of his 4 kickoffs against Arizona State. He was 2-of-3 on field goals (making 30- and 28-yarders), 4-of-4 on PATs and had touchbacks on 3 of his 7 kickoffs at Arizona. He hit all 4 of his field goals (1 shy of the USC game record), including progressive career longs of 35, 43 and 47 yarders, was 3-of-3 on PATs and all 8 of his kickoffs were not returned (7 were touchbacks) at Utah to earn Groza Award Star of the Week honors. He hit a career-long 48 yard field goal (he also missed a shorter attempt) and all 5 of his PATs, plus 4 of his 7 kickoffs were touchbacks, against Washington State. He was 1-of-2 on field goals (he hit a 42-yarder) and 4-of-4 on PATs and 4 of his 8 kickoffs were touchbacks at UCLA. He hit all 3 of his PATs, was 1-of-2 on field goals (a 21-yarder) and had touchbacks on 2 of his 4 kickoffs against Oregon.
HIGH SCHOOL: He made 2019 MaxPreps All-American first team, PrepStar All-Western Region, Tacoma News Tribune Western 100, Max Preps All-Arizona first team, Arizona Cardinals Arizona Special Teams Player of the Year and National Football Foundation Luis Zendejas Arizona Senior Placekicker of the Year as a senior placekicker and punter at Saguaro High in Scottsdale (Ariz.). In 2019, he hit 76-of-77 PATs and 5-of-5 field goals (with a long of 48 yards), had 82 touchbacks on his 94 kickoffs and averaged 49.9 yards on 16 punts (with 5 inside the 20-yard line and a long of 70 yards). Saguaro won its seventh straight state championship in 2019.
As a 2018 junior, he made USA Today All-Arizona honorable mention as he was 86-of-92 on PATs and 3-of-5 on field goals (with a long of 52 yards), had 89 touchbacks on 113 kickoffs and averaged 51.4 yards on 15 punts (with 4 inside the 20-yard line and a long of 65 yards). Saguaro won the 2018 state championship.
He sat out most of his 2017 sophomore season after transferring from Brophy Prep in Phoenix (Ariz.). Current Trojan Andrew Milek also attended Brophy Prep.
PERSONAL: He is a real estate development major at USC. He made the 2020 Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll. His grandfather, Ben Butler, was set to play football at USC before suffering a career-ending shoulder injury as a 1948 high school senior.
