THIS YEAR: Sophomore Alex Mainvielle is in his second season as a distance runner on the USC track and field team.
2022: Mainvielle did not compete during the outdoor season due to injury. During the indoor season, he competed in four meets. Mainvielle set the USC freshman indoor one-mile record with a time of 4:14.81 at the Pac-12 Invitational on Feb. 26. He also had a season-best 800m time of 1:56.68 at the Razorback Invitational on Jan. 29.
HIGH SCHOOL: Mainvielle is a 2021 graduate of West High in Torrance, CA. The past four years he has achieved PR’s of 52.91 in the 400m, 1:55.94 in the 800m, 3:58.60 in the 1500m, 4:13.44 in the mile, 8:42.18 in the 3000m, 9:24.60 in the 2 mile and a 15:05.65 XC 5K. Mainvielle was a competitive baseball player, swimmer, track cyclist & triathlete until his sophomore year of high school. He achieved a number of podium finishes in the latter two at their respective National Championships. He began placing greater emphasis on competitive running after a personal meeting with Michael Johnson at the MJ Performance Center in Texas five years ago. The Covid-19 Pandemic prevented Alex from competing in CIF High School track competitions his final two years at West High. He is a 17-time USATF & AAU All-American in Track & Cross Country while competing for his club team, Pacific Coast Shockwaves from 2013 through 2020, including five individual National Championships and four National 4x800m relay titles. Alex is a 2016 inductee in the City of Torrance Youth Wall of Honor for National athletic achievement.
PERSONAL: Alex was born May 16, 2003 in Torrance, CA…His parents are Jamie and Bernard. He has two younger brothers, Luc and Paul…His interests include music, poetry, reading, chess, and sudoku…Lists his favorite musical artists as Miles Davis, Outkast, Chet Baker, Shania Twain, Charlie Parker and Lauryn Hill…Favorite movies are A Bronx Tale and Just Mercy…Very much enjoys following the Tour de France each summer…Favorite food is Oatmeal…Lists Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Johnson as a sporting inspiration…After USC would like to become a civil rights attorney…is majoring in Accounting.
