Bio
THIS YEAR: All-American graduate student Bailey Lear is in her fifth season as a sprinter on the USC track and field team. She is the USC women's freshman record-holder in the indoor 400m dash and ranks fourth on USC' all-time indoor 400m list. She also ranks sixth on USC's outdoor 400m list and ran the leadoff leg on USC's 4x400m relay which had the second, ninth and 10th-fastest outdoor times in school history.
2022: Lear placed third in the 400m with a season-best time of 51.76 at the Pac-12 Championships on May 15...she also ran on the 4x400m relay with placed second. She advanced out the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the 400m ninth with a time of 52.07 and placed 18th at the NCAA Championships with a time of 51.87. Indoors, she ran on USC's 4x400m relay which placed fourth at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She competed in the 400m at the USATF Championships and placed 22nd with a time of 52.95.
2021: Lear posted a PR of 51.02 to advance second to the NCAA final, where she placed seventh with a time of 51.36. Her time of 51.02 in the NCAA semifinal ranks sixth on USC's all-time list. She also helped lead USC to the team title by running leadoff for 4x400m relay which placed second at NCAAs with a time of 3:24.54, which ranks second on USC's all-time list. Lear also placed fourth in the 400m and ran on USC's winning 4x400m relay en route to the Pac-12 team title. Seven of the nine 400m races she ran during USC's season were under 52.0 seconds. She ran a 200m PR of 23.55 (-1.0) to take third at the Trojan Invitational. Lear competed at the USTFA and placed 27th in the 400m with a time of 53.54.
2020: Lear won the MPSF indoor 400m title with a PR and third-fastest Trojan all-time clocking of 51.60. The outdoor season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
2019: Lear won her first two collegiate 400m races, posting times of of 53.25 at the Trojan Invitational and then 52.86 at the Power 5 Challenge. She set her 400m PR of 52.07 in placing fifth at the Pac-12 Championships. She also ran leadoff on USC's 4x400m relay that won the Pac-12 title with a time of 3:29.23. She had a time of 52.84 to finish 15th in the 400m at the NCAA West Prelims. She ran on USC's 4x400m relay which earned All-America honors with a eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. During the summer, Lear placed fifth in the 400m with a time of 52.55 at the USATF U20s. Indoors, she set the USC freshman 400m record with a time of 53.17 at the MLK Invitational. She took third in the 400m at the MPSF Championships with a time of 53.46. She earned All-America honors as part of USC's sixth-place 4x400m relay at indoor NCAAs.
HIGH SCHOOL: Lear is a 2018 graduate of Frisco Heritage High in Frisco, Texas. The three-time team captain helped Heritage finish third at the 2018 5A Texas state meet by winning the 400m with a time of 53.34, anchoring the winning 4x400m relay and placing second in the 200m with a time of 23.74. She won the 2018 Texas Tech Open indoor track meet with a time of 53.20 to set the Texas high school girls indoor 400m record, breaking the record of Courtney Okolo (2012) who went on to win four NCAA titles in the event. Her high school 400m PR of 52.73 ranked fourth among high school seniors. She was the 2017 Brooks PR Invitational and 2017 Texas Track & Field Coaches Association Meet of Champions 400m dash champion. She was named to the Academic All-District Team all four years and graduated Cum Laude.…Off the track has been involved in Catholic Charities to deliver food to seniors and Destined 2 Run Track & Field Mentoring.
PERSONAL: Bailey was born on March 17, 2001 in New Orleans, La…Her parents are Kimberlyn and Winston Lear and she has one sister, N’Dia…Her favorite pastime is cooking, favorite movie is The Princess and the Frog and favorite television show is Grey's Anatomy…Likes to eat seafood…Her favorite musical artist is Ariana Grande…Lists Allyson Felix as her sports hero because she is relentless on the track and is not afraid to test her will and take on other events, excelling in the 100m, 200m and then 400m races… Lear is a founding member of the newest organization on campus called the United Black Student-Athletes Association where she is the Co-Communication Chair. She earned an undergraduate Communication degree and a master's in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She is now working on a master's in Digital Social Media.
