THIS YEAR: Sophomore Gavin Champ is in his first season as a jumper on the USC track and field team, after one season of competing at TCU.
BEFORE USC: Champ competed as a freshman in 2023 at TCU. He posted PRs of 50-2.50/15.30m (+1.5) in the triple jump and 23-7.25/7.19m (+0.8) in the long jump. He reached the West Preliminary Rounds in the triple jump and placed 37th a jump of 48-4/14.73m (+0.9). He placed 9th in the triple jump (48.4.75) and 12th in the long jump (with a legal PR of 23-7.25) at the Big 12 Championships. He had a wind-aided triple jump best of 51-4.50/15.66m (+2.7w) to win at the Clyde Hart Classic on March 25. He had an indoor triple jump PR of 48-10.00 (14.88m) to place second at the TTU Red Raider Open on Jan. 20.
HIGH SCHOOL: Champ is a 2022 graduate of Princeton High in Princeton, Texas. Champ was the 2022 UIL 5A state champion in the triple jump with a best leap of 48-5.50 and finished second in the long jump with a mark of 23-9.25.
PERSONAL: Gavin was born on Sept. 23, 2003 in Wisconsin…His parents are Melissa and Deke and he has four siblings…Likes to play beach volleyball in his spare time…His favorite musical artists are Drake and Lil Baby and his sports hero is LeBron James…Lists his favorite foods as pizza and pasta…He is majoring in Health Care Studies (pre-Dental) and would like to become a dentist.
